Embodying Power and Place

The current website for Nightwood Theatre did not accurately display the vibrant and modern feel that the Nightwood organization brings to the Toronto theatre scene. Myself and one other designer/developer were tasked with the job of redesigning the Nightwood website to give it a fresh look, reflecting a number of recent changes to their marketing collateral materials. We did this using Wordpress, giving Nightwood a back-end system they could use effectively to manage their website in-house.
The Writing Prompt Generator prints out a random prompt from a list when the user loads the website. The system also allows users to enter and save work for prompts, so they can come back and complete later.
Users are presented with an option: journal prompt, fiction prompt, and research prompt. The user can click on any of the option buttons to receive a prompt in those categories. If the user wants to add a prompt, they can select the “Add New Prompt” button and add the prompt in the text box, and tag accordingly.
If a user finds a prompt they want to work with, they can click the “Write This Prompt” button which will take them to the prompt fill page. This is the page where the user can write for the prompt, save their work, and if they come back later they can edit existing work that has been written for the prompt.
Once a prompt has been completed, the user can select the “Mark As Complete” button and the prompt status will change to Completed and the prompt will be removed from the list that the user receives prompts from.

Jungle Food is a jungle-themed restaurant serving Latin-American inspired cuisine that was built by myself and a team of 4 other developers. I acted as the Team Lead, organizing the project timeline and assisting the Design Lead in the interface design as needed.
PyTrakr is a freelance work tracking and task management system, with a timer that can track hours and holds a total that the user can automatically generate invoices and charge for the work they have completed.
One of my favourite hobbies is spending time creative writing. I’m not choosy about what I write; whether it’s a journal entry, a piece of fiction, a piece of content for a client, or an essay (I know, I’m the anomaly, but I really do love writing an essay!). I do have a lot of ideas, so I typically write the ideas I have down for later. I have a small mason jar that is filled with folded slips of paper and whenever I have time or the desire to write something I will fish one of them out and get started on writing what is on it.
My first experience with web development was a bit of a crash course for me. The extent of my coding knowledge came from formatting my Piczo website in the mid-2000s (if you don’t know what that is, count yourself very, very lucky) – and then I was given a client which required me to handle the ongoing maintenance, and create pages for about 7 websites on a monthly basis. Managing the websites required me to understand HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
